Wide-open spaces, silence, light, serenity: in Gascony you’ll find the authenticity, atmosphere and splendour of the pilgrim’s journey to Santiago de Compostela. Our region is traversed by long stretches of France’s main St James’s Way pilgrimage routes, paths alive with centuries of history that you can discover and share, an unforgettable experience in which the journey counts more than the destination.
The legendary Le Puy route, the best known and most popular in modern times, enters Midi-Pyrénées shortly before the village of Aubrac. From there to the little village of Barcelone du Gers, the path follows a route that illustrates lavishly the period when the pilgrimage to the tomb of St James in Galicia was at the height of its splendour.
The region Tourism Board has launched a very convenient App to scan through the monument and landscapes of this legendary Way.
